Kitchen Inspiration: Moonrise Kingdom

Although the kitchen doesn't have much screen time in the movie Moonrise Kingdom, it really stuck out to me for such an amazing replica of a beach cottage kitchen from 1965.

1. The walls in the kitchen are a buttery yellow similar to Farrow and Ball's Farrow's Cream
2. Stainless Steel Rods for hanging kitchen utensils and gadgets, IKEA
3. Butcher Block feels cozy for a beach cottage's kitchen counters, IKEA
4. Bead board painted in a baby blue lined the walls of the kitchen. The perfect blue is Martha Stewart's Living Aegean Blue
5. Shaker Cabinetry is a simple backdrop for all of the other color and details happening in the kitchen.
6. Jadeite dishes were very common for this time and you can revive this style at Fishs Eddy
7. The Big Chill stove in white

Living an Over-Propped Life? Certainly Not

A few weeks ago this article was published in the New York Times proclaiming that following trends isn't design and we are all trapped in an over-propped and stylized life that isn't realistic. The article is quite a rant on a group of people who simply want to live in a nice habitat. The photo above contains two of the writer's so-called offenses. Offense #1: The bar cart which he proclaims is a dust collector and he has yet to use his own bar cart. Offense #2: The faux taxidermy
Check out the article and see what absurd offenses you have in your home, I am proud to say that I have had them all at one time and I certainly do live in my space.

I saw Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom on opening night last week and it is now one of my favorite movies of all time! Here is a video of Bill Murray giving a tour around the 1960's styled set.

Found Door Friday

A couple of weeks ago I posted a photo of a very unique door that I discovered in my travels. It has inspired me to start a series of posts every Friday called Found Door Friday. Each Friday I will highlight a unique door found by me.
Today I am featuring this lovely hot pink door found in Notting Hill

Pimp your Outdoors

If you are getting ready for a weekend BBQ, but need a quick and cheap way to pimp out your outdoor space, head over to Luna Bazaar for an array of paper lanterns. I still have a few sitting in my closet that never made it outside last summer! I think the warm weather is prompting me to work on my outdoor space this weekend.

The Final Decision

A few weeks ago I posted a mockup of a brick fireplace as I was making the decision to paint it out white. Here is the final result:
We went with the white to modernize the room especially with the glass ping pong table.

Wallpaper Headboards

This is one of my favorite projects that I worked on so far this year. I found this amazing flocked trellis wallpaper made out of Star Wars characters. Instead of going overboard and covering a whole room in this, it made the perfect backdrop for twin headboards.

Wedding Design

I have been MIA for the last week due to some negative events in my life, so to reflect on happier times, here is a look at the gorgeous flowers and design from my wedding back in February. I worked with the amazing Gardenstore in Telluride. I was so lucky to have such a talented florist who completed my vision in a small town.
I picked up the vintage buttons at Liberty and love how they transformed ordinary burlap.
The gorgeous linens came from La Tavola.
The image are courtesy of the amazing Figge Photography.

Visualizing a Before and After

Often it is hard for clients to visualize major changes to their home and I sometimes use photoshop as a way to get an idea of how a new paint color might look. After living with this fireplace for 15 years, it was especially hard to think about changing it out by painting the brick white. Stay tuned to see whether they plunged ahead with the white or kept it as is...
